Abstract

Whether Japanese workers are more committed to their employing organizations than are U.S. workers has been the subject of considerable comparative research and speculation. Besser reviews our research (Cole 1979; Lincoln and Kalleberg 1985, 1990) on this topic and reaches two major conclusions.
