This issue of JAH is in honor of Charles (Chuck) F. Longino, a scholar who made important contributions to the field of gerontology through his research and service. All who knew Chuck as a friend as well as a scholar felt a great loss when he died on Christmas day 2008 at age 70. When Kyriakos(Kokos) Markides approached me with the idea of honoring Chuck by having a special issue of JAH dedicated to him, I gladly agreed to be the guest editor. Given the mission of the journal and Chuck’s research interests, the topic for the special issue was easy to agree on: Migration, Aging, and Health. Those who sent manuscripts for review generally included comments on the importance of Chuck’s writing for their research. The articles selected and published in this volume are an impressive tribute to Chuck. What could be a greater honor to a scholar than to have others taking your intellectual contributions as a launching point for their research? It is my honor to be the guest editor of this special issue.
