This issue of the Vienna Yearbook of Population Research features contributions presented at the conference “From intentions to behaviour: reproductive decisionmaking in a macro-micro perspective” organised by the Vienna Institute of Demography of the Austrian Academy of Sciences and held in Vienna in December 2010. The meeting included a presentation of the findings of the multidisciplinary research project “REPRO” (Reproductive decision making in a macro–micro approach) on the antecedents and outcomes of fertility intentions. One of the contributions of the project was to show that the stylised ‘gap’ between intended and actual fertility behaviour - which suggests plenty of scope for policy action - provides crude and potentially misleading simplifications of the complex picture of reproductive decision-making and, consequently, of the role of family-related policies in Europe (Testa and Philipov 2011).URL
