Proposal and Project Services
We provide startup support for newly funded projects, including advice to new PIs and project managers on the IRB submission process. After an award, we work closely with project PIs to coordinate and prepare progress and final reports to agencies and foundations. We also maintain databases of biosketches, active grants, pending proposals, and investigators’ other sources of grant support, all of which are used in the preparation of proposals and reports to agencies, and monitor compliance for reporting and IRB deadlines. Activities include:
- Identifying funding opportunities
- Proposal development and submission. This may include:
- Alerting investigators to agency requirements and setting deadlines
- Coordinating multiple investigators across departments and institutions
- Preparing and assembling the nontechnical sections of proposals
- Reviewing proposals to ensure that they comply with agency requirements
- Obtaining university approvals
- Submitting proposals through electronic submission systems
- Seed grant funding
CPC faculty are able to apply for seed grants to support activities that will lead to a submitted proposal. There are annual calls for larger grants; requests for under $2000 are accepted on a rolling basis. In addition, faculty are invited to participate in the Grant Proposal Development Group (GPDG), which meets every two weeks to provide input from faculty and proposal unit staff on proposals that are under development. For more information or to be added to the listserv for GPDG, email cpcproposals@unc.edu.
