Kate Harwood

Kate Harwood is an Assistant Professor of Economic Development in the Department of City and Regional Planning and an Adjunct Assistant Professor in Public Policy at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.  She is also a research affiliate with the Furman Center for Real Estate and Urban Policy.  Her research focuses on questions related to how housing availability and affordability affect individual well-being, drive the economic development of neighborhoods, and intersect with the increasing prevalence of natural disasters.

Her ongoing projects explore how natural disasters are reshaping housing markets and neighborhood populations and whether affordable housing programs may be filling gaps in traditional disaster assistance.

She earned a PhD in Public Policy from New York University, an MS in Economics from Tufts University and a BA in Political Science and Sociology from the University of Miami.
