Abstract
The article comprises a review of the literature that encapsulates previous findings on the effects of international migration and worker remittances on agricultural change -- a factor that has direct and indirect environmental consequences -- with a special emphasis on Central America and the Caribbean. Agricultural data obtained from the Latin American (LAMP) and Mexican Migration (MMP) Projects supplements this review for several countries surveyed. The data summaries are analyzed to establish whether or not they support theories on the influence of international migration and worker remittances on agricultural change in the developing world.
