Abstract
Early in my tenure as a professor of OBG I had the pleasure of mentoring a woman who at midlife changed careers and enrolled in medical school. In her first career she was an entrepreneurial biostatistician who founded a now global business that produced analytical software usable by anyone with access to a personal computer. It moved what were then sophisticated statistical techniques from large mainframe computers operated by experts into the offices of clinicians. As I listened to our resident research presentations this Spring, I marvelled at the fruit of the revolution she started as junior clinicians with minimal quantitative training presented complex analyses done with her or a competitor’s software.
